The Reality of Modern Production
Modern cards are produced in far greater quantities than many collectors realize. While designs have become more elaborate and technology has improved, overall print volume has expanded significantly. Even when products appear limited, true scarcity is often diluted through multiple parallels, variations, and reprints.
This level of production creates a long-term challenge. When supply greatly outweighs the number of collectors willing to hold an item for decades, prices tend to soften rather than strengthen.
Condition Alone Is No Longer Enough
In earlier eras, simply preserving a card in strong condition could set it apart. Today, grading has become routine. As a result, high grades are no longer rare by default. A modern card graded in near-perfect condition may still exist in large numbers, limiting its ability to stand out long term.
